This year has been nothing short of a rollercoaster! Starting an entire degree in just one year felt intimidating at first, I went from doubting whether I could actually do it, to feeling capable, yet still questioning if I was doing enough. Reflecting on this academic year, I’m truly amazed at the journey it has been.
Kicking off the year when everyone else was still on break was tough. Every day, I had to push myself to get to class, constantly reminding myself of why I’m here and what I set out to achieve. I remember that first day stepping into the cold histology lab to learn about osteology, which was fascinating. From there, I moved on to studying muscles and, later in the year, exploring the other organs of the human body. Little did I know that this year would bring such deep academic and spiritual growth.
To say I got through this year on my own strength would be far from the truth. I’ve been carried by God’s grace and mercy throughout. Looking back, I can see how God carefully placed specific people in my life to support me, guide me, and make this journey possible. My supervisors, friends, and everyone I’ve met in this program are all examples of God’s work and provision, and I’m so grateful for each one of them.
I’ve grown in ways I didn’t expect, especially in understanding what research truly involves. My project has been deeply focused on cadaver work, and while I have been “cadavered out” at times, it’s been an incredible learning experience. Now, as I bring my project together, I’m honestly amazed at how far I’ve come with everyone’s support. When I think back to how intimidated I was by the number of pages I’d seen in other people’s theses, I never imagined I’d be having something similar on my laptop for my own project.
This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been transformative. I’m no longer the same person I was at the start of the year, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the growth, challenges, and incredible people I’ve encountered along the way.
