ALREADY over halfway through my honours year and it has been a rollercoaster. Looking back, this year has been such an eye-opening experience. Coming from a different university and a completely different city, I have had so many experiences that I don’t think I would have had anywhere else.

Starting off this year was crazy, not having accommodation, not knowing what to expect and not knowing anyone in my course, little to say I did think I had jumped into the deep end. The first day gave a shock to my system, sitting in the lecture hall with all new people, my lecturer, Dr Alistair Hunter, asked for those doing Radiobiology to put their hands up and I was the only one. What a shock it was to me. Luckily enough, within a couple days, I met my classmate Ciarran.

I have always wanted to be involved in some kind of cancer research, leading me to Radiobiology. Before this year, I didn’t think I would be doing such a cool honours course, filled with the most amazing topics, like medical physics, drug discovery pipelines, chemotherapy, and radiation of tissue, as well as the most exciting practicals I have done which included using a radiation machine to kill cancer cells.

I am still looking forward to learning all six modules we still have left for this year as well as working more on my research project, especially working in the lab on my own research. The rest of this year still fills me with a bit of worry as I am still not certain as to what to expect but looking back at my time so far, I am sure I will enjoy it.
