My academic and personal journey has been a roller coaster ride, and to be honest, I wouldn’t change a thing. I am here to celebrate myself for all the things I have accomplished, the obstacles I have overcome, the tears I have shed, and the relentless hard work I have put in to be where I am today. So, remember to give yourself your flowers too, and grant yourself the grace you deserve.

My journey began at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and later, I transferred to the University of Cape Town. I vividly recall the first day of my honors program when my friend and I kept questioning if we truly belonged here. We felt like impostors surrounded by students from elite universities. This self-doubt is what they call “Imposter syndrome,” something many of us experience at some point. Just remember, you are not alone in feeling this way.

Throughout this year, I have learned to cherish the little victories. I have had the privilege of meeting remarkable people, and it’s as if we’ve formed a close-knit community where we can openly share our thoughts and support each other, which is something I’ve never encountered before.

As I continue to write my story, I will persistently pursue my dreams, knocking on every door until they all swing open. I will keep giving myself the recognition I deserve, and I hope you do the same. My parting words “ Give yourself your flowers.”
